The Great Lakes Michigan Chapter was established in August 2004.

The Great Lakes Michigan Chapter, GMWA is under the leadership of Reverend Larry D. Allen, who is the nationally appointed Chapter Representative.  Rev. Allen is Minister of Music for Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Saginaw, MI. To read more about Rev. Allen click on the leadership button on the left, then choose the tab with his name on it.

Rev. Allen’s nationally appointed Assistant Chapter Representative is Penelope L. Walker, who is a member of Messiah Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, where Rev. Daniel Smith is the senior pastor.  Penelope also serves as a GMWA national officer, through her position on the GMWA Chapter Representative’s Executive Board.  Ms. Walker is the GMWA liaison, with responsibility for the states of Kentucky and Michigan.

Our Mission

To create a learning environment for all phases of gospel music on a local level for; singers, musicians, and all facets of the gospel music experience.

To assist in equipping and enhancing the saints to be assets within their home churches, through seminars, workshops, and class instruction

To enhance the quality of gospel music and its presentation in the local church community

To serve as a gospel music resource and source of support to the music ministry of the local churches

Membership

Chapter membership is not limited just to singers and musicians.  Several chapter auxiliaries have been initiated and are available for chapter member’s participation.  The current auxiliaries are: the choir, the Clergy/Evangelistic staff, the youth division, security staff, ushers, and nurses.
